The Department of Public Safety (DPS) provides 24-hour police and security on campus including security of facilities, patrol of campus, providing escort services to and from vehicles and residence halls, and enforcement of all university rules and regulations.

Here are some quick tips from DPS to help make sure you stay safe on campus and in your day-to-day life: 

Staying Safe & Aware

  • Stay alert, stay safe. Trust your instincts and be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you see something, say something. Call DPS at (740) 351-3232 or dial 911.
  • Keep your phone charged and know emergency numbers. 
  • Take a moment to make DPS a contact in your phone: (740) 351-3232 for emergencies

Travel & Friends

  • Don’t walk alone – travel in groups. There’s safety in numbers.
  • Share your location with a friend before heading out.
  • Check in with your roommates or friends when you arrive back safely.

Transportation & Movement

  • Use well-lit streets and sidewalks. Avoid dark shortcuts.
  • Arrange safe rides – don’t get into vehicles with strangers.
  • Designate a sober driver if alcohol is involved.
