Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) provide pre-hospital or out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients that access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safety transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.
Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical direction. EMT’s are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.
Students can choose to continue their education and become Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT), paramedics, or transition into another allied health career. All EMT students are taught to a national standard of care in addition to receiving training specific to the State of Ohio EMS.
