The competition awarded scholarship prizes to SSU for the Top 3 individual finishers and Top 2 teams. For the individual participants, Raen Ridgway from Federal Hocking placed first receiving a $2,000 scholarship, followed by Garrett Cody from Eastern Pike in second receiving a $1,000 scholarship, and Lorelei Carver from Portsmouth West High School in third receiving a $500 scholarship. For the team portion, Eastern Pike’s team made up of Garrett Cody, Jubal Bevins, Carson Salisbury, and Xane Runyon claimed first place with each member receiving a $200 scholarship, while Ironton Catholic School’s team of Alex Gnau, Gavin Simpson, Sophia Rowe, and Molly Walker finished in second, with each member receiving a $100 scholarship.

The competition winners also received a year software license from event sponsor Wolfram Research, a multinational company that creates computational technology. The software will allow the students to study data analytics and modeling, as well as other topics ideal for those interested in careers in the mathematical sciences.

SSU’s Mathematical Sciences Department offers degrees that provide a broad intellectual foundation in undergraduate mathematics, fostering reasoning and problem-solving skills, and gives the opportunity for students to combine their interest in mathematics with preparation for a variety of career options. The department also provides a wide array of undergraduate mathematics courses to support degree programs across campus.
