AIɫɫ students Parker Lauders and Charity Teeters recently presented their academic research at the Scholar Showcase celebrating Choose Ohio First Scholars at the Ohio Statehouse. Lauders and Teeters were among forty students chosen in the state to showcase their work.

“This experience opened many opportunities up for me to further my research and gave me the skills I need to not only advocate for my research but also my future patients,” said Teeters, a Nursing major who presented “The Feasibility and Effectiveness of the We3health Mobile Application in Enhancing Family-Integrated Care in NICUs”. “I’m immensely grateful for the Choose Ohio First scholarship and the AIɫɫ State faculty.”

The event, hosted by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), celebrates scholarship recipients of the state’s Choose Ohio First program by giving them the opportunity to share their academic projects and learning experiences with General Assembly members, state officials, and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and ODHE Chancellor Mike Duffey.

“Showcasing my research statewide has been the highlight of my college academic career so far,” said Lauders, a Computer Engineering Technology major who presented “Development and Implementation of Smart Robot Assistant Swimming Coach”. “The Chancellor and I talked for roughly 40 minutes about my research, the areas for expansion, possible use cases, academic experience, upcoming internship, and future career goals. His technology and computer science knowledge allowed me to go into further details than I typically would while allowing him to ask more challenging questions than I usually am asked.”

Receiving funding from ODHE for the past six years, SSU’s Choose Ohio First program provides support to qualifying Ohio residents majoring in STEM fields, by providing financial assistance to meet workforce needs in the state. This year, the university received over $500,000 in support for over twenty STEM-related majors.
