Members of AIɫɫ’s fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) recently attended their organizations Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) in Chicago, Illinois. The conference allowed the students to connect with other TKE chapters as well as develop and grow their own leadership and collaboration skills.

“The main objective was obviously learning valuable skills on how to become a better leader to lead your chapter to success, which was unquestionably achieved among all attendees, but what I found most valuable was learning how to plan and organize fundraising for whatever occasion – especially for the patients and families receiving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said Colson Sparks, Vice President of the TKE chapter on campus.

A Political Science and Psychology major, Sparks chose to join Fraternity & Sorority Life on campus after meeting members of TKE and feeling a genuine connection with them. Since joining, he is an advocate for the benefits of joining a Greek organization.

“I was struggling when I started my freshman year keeping on top of my classwork and my grades began to suffer,” said Sparks. “Upon joining Tau Kappa Epsilon things immediately began to improve as I was surrounded by support and the encouragement to do well.”

Sparks enjoys being able to work with his fellow fraternity brothers as a team through their chapter’s goals as well as being able to find support for their personal goals. Attending the RLC together was another opportunity for the group to bond and grow as an organization.

“This fraternity is for life – attending an RLC really solidifies that and is crucial for new members to see,” said Sparks. “The event actually sold out, there were hundreds of Tekes there and the feeling of being surrounded by men just as passionate as you are indescribable. Not only were there hundreds of active college members it was also packed to the gills with alumni and men who have made Tau Kappa Epsilon a part of their everyday careers.”

To students considering joining Fraternity & Sorority Life at SSU, Sparks encourages them to step out of their comfort zone and discover the benefits of joining a lifelong organization.

“I am constantly pushed to improve myself for the growth of my fraternity and not just that but for my whole future,” he said. “This brotherhood really truly prepares you for the demands of life after graduation.”
