“We want to keep the same requirements and expectations in the Honors Program and push students to achieve the best work possible, while also compensating for other priorities,” he said, explaining the dedication and commitment students must have to the program to be successful.

Students within the Honors Program find several unique opportunities available to them. Scholarship opportunities, priority course registration, research and study abroad funding, and educational trips allow students to expand their opportunities and take advantage of every learning avenue that can prepare them for their future career.

“Being an Honors Student pays back,” Dr. Salinas said. “Maybe not the first day, but in the long run it will very much be in favor of better preparing the students for the labor market.”

To participate in SSU’s Honors program, incoming students must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and an ACT score of 26 or higher. Once students are in the Honors Program, they must also maintain a GPA of no lower than 3.3.

“Not only can students coming out of high school apply, but if you are already a student here at AIɫɫ, you can also apply, if you meet the requirements,” Dr. Salinas said. “The students must have that 3.3 GPA coming into the program and maintain that through the time they are in the program here”.
